With the joint efforts of cross-border VR & AR pioneers, new technologies may well alter our perception of the world and disrupt the "reality" taken for granted.

    Jack McCauley (PhD 84), Co-founder & VP of Engineering at Oculus

    Jack McCauley co-founded Oculus VR, where he served as VP of Engineering. Previously, he invented the first scrolling feature of the computer mouse and designed the guitars and drums for the Guitar Hero video game series. In addition, he was one of the originators of the universal serial bus (USB) port standard for computer peripherals.


    Praveen Gupta, VP of Corporate Investments & Development at HTC

    As VP of Corporate Investment & Development at HTC, Praveen Gupta currently focuses on VR/AR, smartphone, wearable, and IoT related technologies. He held similar role at SK Telecom with focus on mobile technologies. While at CDIB Ventures, he was involved in raising two VC funds.


    Allen Yang, Executive Director of Center for Augmented Cognition at UC Berkeley

    Allen Yang is a leading expert in the areas of high-dimensional pattern recognition, computer vision, image processing, and sensor networks. He enhanced the understanding of real-world applications including face recognition, object recognition, human motion recognition, image segmentation, and their mobile solutions.


    The fever for aerial robotics has been spreading all over the world in recent years. Strategically, the Chinese drone makers have recently accomplished a lot in R&D and sales while several US players have also been pushing the boundaries of innovation.

    Chris Anderson is the CEO of 3D Robotics and founder of DIY Drones. He was the Editor in Chief of Wired Magazine. Before Wired he was with The Economist. In addition, He is the author of three New York Times bestselling books: The Long Tail: Why the Future of Business is Selling Less of MoreFree: The Future of a Radical Price, and Makers: The New Industrial Revolution .


    Darren Liccardo (BS 01 & MS 03), VP Engineering of Systems and Applications at DJI

    As the VP Engineering of Systems and Applications, Darren Liccardo is leading DJI's R&D efforts in Palo Alto, CA . Previously, he built and led the autopilot team for Tesla Motors and worked for BMW in its US technology office. He owns the patent of Real-time Aircraft Status Detection System and Method (United States PCT/US2013/028780).


    Nathan Schuett, Founder & CEO at Prenav

    Nathan Schuett is Founder and CEO of Prenav, a startup that is developing automated drones to inspect the world’s infrastructure. Previously, he managed robotics projects at the Society for Creative Research, performing work for Google others. He also spent several years in the gaming industry.


    Gareth Keane, Senior Investment Manager at Qualcomm Ventures

    Gareth Keane is involved in Qualcomm Ventures activities in the hardware and connected device ecosystems. He helped define the Qualcomm Ventures investment thesis around UAVs and robotics, and led the Qualcomm Ventures investments in companies like 3D Robotics and Spire.

    Dr. Yong Liu is partner of WI Harper Group, a SF based venture capital firm. Previously he was head of Lenovo and Baidu open innovation efforts in the US and an advisor to Legend Star and Cybernaut’s SV operation. He served as a key contributor in several cross-border M&A deals including Lenovo-Moto acquisition.

    Reynold Xin (Phd 13), Co-founder and Chief Architect at Databricks

    Reynold Xin is the co-founder and Chief Architect at Databricks, where he oversees the company's development on Apache Spark. In the last three years, Reynold and his team at Databricks scaled Spark from an academic project to the most popular open source big data project. Prior to Databricks, he was a PhD candidate at the UC Berkeley AMPLab.
